Providing a Social Security Number (SSN) is not required in order to apply to University of the People and applicants may choose to use another number (such as passport number) for identification purposes. A social security number is used primarily to verify your identity in situations where you have the same or a similar name to others. In other cases, official I.D. numbers like your SSN can be useful in to proving your identity if it is in question.
